Magazine research

Updated: Feb 20, 2023

The topic of the magazines I'm researching is based off videogames.

The first magazine I have researched is from RETRO GAMER, it focuses on Tomb Raider's 20th anniversary.

The cover has Laura Croft to promote the Tomb Raider franchise because she was a popular videogame character back in the late 1990s and the early 2000s.

I like the font of the magazine title, it makes it look old school and I like the way Laura Croft is represented in the magazine, she is holding a gun and is smiling as she is represented dangerous and not weak.

They used the colours brown and orange. Brown is to represent the colours of the ancient copper in a tomb and orange is to represent fire from a torch.

The exclusive content talks about Pokémon, Mario and the Atari 2600 to make people who buy the magazine interested in it's other content.

The second magazine front cover is from Nintendo Power's first ever issue from 1988 and focuses on Super Mario Bros 2.

They use light colours such as red, blue, green and yellow on the front cover and on the font of the logo.

This gets gamers back in 1988 hyped for the original Super Mario Bros. game getting a sequel.

The exclusive content talks about the other information such as a second quest in ZELDA to get people's attention because they may not know about this unlockable.

I like this as they took a camera shot of a clay model instead of cartoon drawing because it was better than the CGI you would see today.

I have done a poll for a custom named magazine.

As a result of everyone's votes the magazine is now called Game Over Magazine.

The votes for Game Over Magazine was at 62%
