Mise en scene is the stage design and arrangement of actors in scenes for a theatre or film production, both in visual arts through storyboarding, visual theme, and cinematography, and in narrative storytelling through direction.
La La Land
The clip begins with cars being stuck in a traffic jam in a motorway and the characters in the cars break down in song starting with a lady in a yellow dress. The lighting is with actual sunlight as it takes place during daytime.
A radio can be heard which plays the song and people start to sing it.
The film is a musical because the characters are singing.
This doesn't have a specific year of when it was set, but it has a nostalgia feel to it as the dresses are like 1960s and the cars are like 1980s.
In this scene we can see the hills of California to indicate it takes place in California and it takes place in Los Angles because of the title La La Land.
The Greatest Showman
The scene begins with a man walking out of a building and stands there while he sings.
The film doesn't say where it takes place, but it's said it takes place in the 19th century because of the trains, outfits, carriages and luggage cases.
The main character is P T Barnum, he wears a top hat, long jacket black shoes and black pantaloons (That's what trousers were called back then!), later in the scene he switches to a ringmaster outfit. He organizes a performance to gain popularity and it would be called a circus.
The lighting is dark to make it like an old film.
The film genre is a musical as there is songs that the characters sing.
Stranger Things
The trailer begins with sprinklers in an isolated area to show it being a stereotypical horror film. It takes place in the 1980s as there are typewriters, clothes, logos and a board game about magic. (Possibly Dungeons and Dragons)
The main characters are a group of boys who are friends and one of them goes missing and instead they find a girl who has a number 11 on her wrist as she's an escaped patient from a top-secret experiment.
The lights for the house flicker making an indication that something is happening.
The genre is a sci-fi tv series as the patient has supernatural powers.
